Changes to Quilt Show Entry Rules

The IMQA Board of Directors, the MQS® Board and a special task force joined together to evaluate the focus of the MQS® Quilt Show. As a result of this evaluation some changes were made to the entry rules.

Here are the changes to the entry rules:

  • Each entrant is limited to a maximum of three quilt entries, with one quilt per category entered. These limitations do not include the challenge competitions. This means if you chose, you may enter a total of three quilted entries plus one in the thread challenge and one fabric challenge for a total five entries per person.

  • Beginning in 2010 the Overall Category will be limited to hand-guided machine quilting only. The Bread & Butter Category will include hand-guided, computer-guided or a combination of both.

  • Because the machine manufactures are expanding their product line to include sit-down machines and because domestic machines are also capable of finishing quilts, MQS® is pleased to announce that beginning in 2010, entries quilted on any machine with or without a track system while standing or sitting, will be accepted in six categories.

These categories include: Traditional Custom, Art/Pictorial, Wall and Fabric Challenge; Just For Me – Bed and Just For Me – Wall. All other categories will be restricted to machines with a track system.

We invite all machine quilters to showcase their talents at MQS®. We’re confident that these changes will create renewed interest and increased opportunities in the MQS® Quilt Show.

The Bread & Butter Category quilt blocks/patterns for 2010 will be: Mexican Star, Block of the Month and T-Shirt or Memory Quilts.
